Orange Prize Long Listed, Announced

The Orange Prize is given to a woman author. That is judged to be the best full length work of fiction written in the English language. The Orange Prize is given in the U.K. It can not be a short story or translated from another language.

The nominations will be decided soon. But you can view the long list at the Orange prize site. There are a few American writers that have been nominated. I look forward to this every spring. I have not read any of these yet.

What are your thoughts of the nominee's Post me a comment. I am interested to see if any one has read them and did they deserve to be long listed.

I love the Orange Prize nominees and always find several very good one's among them each year, and not just the winners.
I have read four from this list and am about to start a fifth:
1.Samantha Hunt’s The Invention of Everything Else****
2.Michelle de Kretser’s The Lost Dog****
3.Toni Morrison’s A Mercy****+
4.Marilynne Robinson’s Home*****

I believe all of these deserved the nomination. I rarely buy books if I can borrow them, swap for them, or get an ARC. But I would pay full price for Home or Mercy.
I would also buy The Lost Dog. But I borrowed The Invention of Everything Else from the library because I don't personally feel the need to read it again. The other three I would definitely read again and want to own. I hope that helps a little.
I also have an ARC of Debra Adelaide's The Household Guide to Dying. I'll let you know what I think when it's completed.
My Orange Prize Reading Project for all years is here if it interests you:
